My name is Marilyn Meyer Bratt and I serve on the Board of Directors in the role of Secretary. I am a tenured Associate Professor at Marquette University and live in the rural community where I began my nursing practice.

I am well-aware of the health disparities of rural populations and the challenges that rural-dwellers face to access quality care. To this RNO Board I bring my experience as the Program Director/Primary Investigator of three large-scale Health Resources and Services Administration grants that were focused on newly licensed nurse retention through the implementation of nurse residency programs. These grants generated partnerships and collaborations with over 70 acute care rural and urban hospitals, healthcare centers, and rural cooperatives in the Midwest.

My research evolved from these grants and is focused on the retention of newly licensed nurses, and examination of quality of care and the practice environment in rural hospitals. This research has required conducting multi-site research studies, working with diverse institutional partners, forging relationships with stakeholders, and providing education for preceptors and nurse educators.

Due to my expertise regarding implementation of nurse residency programs, I was instrumental in developing the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) revised Standards for Accreditation of Entry-to-Practice Programs (2015) and have served as a CCNE Nurse Residency Program Evaluator for 10 years. As an RNO Board Member I am committed to using my skills and talents to help the organization continue its mission of being a voice for rural nursing practice, be champions in shaping rural nursing practice and education, and work towards increasing the access of quality care for rural communities by shaping public policy.
